Ron Holland Obituary

Mr. Ron Holland, 84 of Adel passed away Monday, April 13, 2020, a week prior to his 85th birthday at Southwell Health and Rehabilitation Center in Adel. He was born in Sheffield, Alabama to the late John and Agnes Holland.

Mr. Holland graduated from the University of North Alabama (then Florence State) with a degree in chemistry and biology. He was business manager of the college newspaper and played in the college orchestra and band. Following graduation he served as an officer in the United States Army at Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga for two years. Mr. Holland worked at many jobs but his primary occupation was with Belk stores. He became the youngest manager in Belk stores history and eventually served in Belk positions in Alabama, Kentucky, and Tennessee where he retired in his late fifties. 

After moving to Adel and marrying his wife, Sue, he worked with the Williams Company, King Frog for a while and also served as a substitute teacher at Cook High School.  He was a member of First Baptist Church in Adel, where he served as a deacon and was actively involved in the Food Pantry for many years. Mr. Holland was a member of Mens III Sunday School Class and Sunshine Pals Senior Adult Ministry. He was always interested in community, he was active in Cook County Arts Council, serving on the board as Vice President.

Survivors include his loving wife, Sue; three children; six grandchildren, and several great grandchildren. Also mourning his passing are four stepchildren, Beth McCranie, Carol Magri, Leigh Smith, Jerri Blanton, and their families.  Mr. Holland was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother John "Jay" W. Holland, Jr.

When conditions related to the COVID-19 Pandemic allow, a memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Adel.
