Rex Arnold Caldwell, Jr. died Sept. 29, 2021 at Crisp Regional Hospital, Cordele, GA. Born Sept. 16, 1929 in Faceville, GA (where his father had transferred with the railroad from Paducah, KY) ,he was the son of Rosalie and Rex A. Caldwell, Sr. After twenty-eight years of Air Force service he ultimately retired to Barwick, GA, where his parents resided.
Mr. Caldwell served during the Korean War in the Medical Supply Division. He loved the military lifestyle and was stationed in Fort Benning, Fort Bragg, Lackland AFB, Keesler AFB, Sampson AFB, Parks AFB, Tachikawa AFB Japan, Taegu Korea, Pusan Korea, McCoy AFB, RAF Brize Norton England, Plattsburgh AFB, Clark AFB Philippines, TDR Laboratory Manila Philippines, and Eglin AFB. He was an excellent conversationalist, an avid reader, and interesting writer with exceptional penmanship. His letters and stories were enjoyed and now treasured by his family.
He was predeceased by his parents; the mother of his children, Beverly Millis; his son Craig, and daughter Vicky; his sisters, Lucille Beaty, Lenora Jackson, Kathleen Manley, Laurine Jones Stanfield, Beulah Norman; brothers Allen Caldwell, Horace Ray Caldwell, and Charles Caldwell.
Survivors include his son Randy; grandchildren Damian (Tina) Caldwell, Vanessa (Rick) Pavicic, Jeremy (Danielle) Caldwell, Jessica (Richard) Dunnington, Lindsay (Michael) Caldwell, Melissa (John) Jenkins; and his sister-in-law, Helen Caldwell of Shalimar, FL. Mr. Caldwell was blessed with numerous great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews whom he adored.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, October 10, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Evergreen Baptist Cemetery.
