Mr. James Lawrence "Pete" Moody, Sr. was born on December 27, 1936 in Brooks County, GA to Walter Humphreys Moody and Ruth Nettles Moody. Pete graduated from Dixie High School, ABAC and The University of Georgia, where he was a member of the University of Georgia Livestock Judging Team, Phi Kappa Phi and Alpha Zeta Honor Fraternity. He was a retired Lt. Colonel from the Army Reserve, a graduate of the U. S. Army Command and General Staff College and enjoyed serving on the Georgia National Guard Pistol Team.
Pete was a longtime member of the Brooks County Development Authority and served on the board of the Dixie Volunteer Fire Department. He was a rancher, farmer, owner of Pete's Gun Shop and a Probation Officer for the State of Georgia. Pete was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he served in many different leadership capacities.
Survivors include his wife, Harriet Ball Moody of Dixie; sons, James L. "Jim" (Stephanie) Moody, Jr., of Thomasville and Walter D. "Walt" Moody of Dixie; grandchildren, Payton Moody of Las Vegas, Nevada, Ian (Brianna) Moody of Quitman, and Reagan Moody of Orange City, Fl; sister, Jackie Cunningham of West Palm Beach, Fl; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Frank Henry Moody, and Thomas Kenneth Moody; and sister Martha Janis Norman.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Thomasville with Bishop Jason Keyton officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Maxwell - Purvis Funeral Home.
