Lillian Martin Obituary

Lillian Murray Martin, 89, of Thomasville, passed away Friday, May 4th, at home. She was born in Quitman to John Edward (Ed) Murray and Inelle Folsom Murray. She graduated from Quitman High School in 1946 where she was voted "cutest". Lillian married Samuel (Sam) Lester Martin on 02/21/1947. They resided in Thomasville where they had 2 children, Samuel Lester (Les) Martin, Jr. and Sandra Louise Martin. The family were members of Thomasville Methodist Church where Lillian was active in the Methodist Women's Circle. She was a homemaker until her children left for college when she went to work and retired from Woolworth Dept. Store.
Survivors include her children, Samuel Lester (Les) Martin, Jr of Thomasville, and Sandra Martin Smith of Quitman; grandchildren, Lillian "Lilly" (Jason) Gilbert of Tequesta, FL, Brody Martin of Thomasville, Leticia (Ryutaro) Isobe of Minoridai, Japan, Matthew "Matt" (Teresa) Smith of St. Augustine, FL, and Benjamin "Ben" (Ansley) Smith of Decatur, GA; great-grandchildren, Olivia Gilbert, Max Gilbert, Weston Gilbert, Rivers Martin, Tatsuki Isobe, Kaylee Smith, Tierany Smith, Landon Smith, and Everett Smith; numerous nieces and nephews; Les & Sandra's local cousin, Lea Sampson, and Aunt Ruth Willett.
Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Inelle Murray; her siblings, George Murray, Lamar Murray, Edward Murray, Jeanette Murray Jordan, Christene Murray Powell, and Thomas Murray; the father of their children, Sam Martin; nieces, Mary Nell Murray Bland, Jean Murray Westmoreland, and Linda Powell Linton.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks for the WestCare group of caregivers that so lovingly cared for her for almost a year - Courtney, Natoisha, Bertha, Teresa, and Brittany.  Thanks also to Hospice of Southwest Georgia for their assistance during her final days.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 7, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Quitman United Methodist Church with Rev. Jay Roberson and Rev. Pam France officiating. Internment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends prior to the service at 10:00 AM at the Quitman United Methodist Chapel.
