J.D. Friar, 87, of Adel passed away at his home on November 20, 2023. Mr. Friar was born in Adel on August 21, 1936, to the late Jackson Duncan Friar, Sr. & Louise Arrington Friar. He attended the Community Calvary Holiness Church in Adel. Through his years, he grew a love for many things including fishing, shopping, boiling peanuts, welding trailers, and watching wrestling, and cowboy shows.
J.D. leaves behind his wife, Vernell Friar of Adel; daughter, Charlotte Frost of Adel and Christy Friar of Adel; grandchildren, Ashley Friar, Casey Futch, Dustin Friar, Heather (Billy) Welch, Charles (Shelby) Judge, Laura Brewer, Amy Stein, Colt Stein, Clay Stein, and several great-grandchildren; brother, Derrell (Wanda) Friar of Leesburg; and sister, Lavon (Elton) Webb of Valdosta and Betty Jean Gunter; and special friend Jason Kelly. He is preceded in death by his son, Dennis Friar; his former wife, JoOuida “Peggy” Friar; and sisters, Ophelia George and Shirley Griffin.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at 4:00 p.m. at Purvis Funeral Home with Rev. Freddie Stone officiating. Internment will follow at Woodlawn City Cemetery in Adel. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
