Horace Edwin Raper

Mr. Horace Raper, 93 of Thomasville, formerly of Adel, passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at his residence. Mr. Raper was born May 5, 1928 in Sparks, Georgia. He retired after 22 years as master sergeant with the United States Air Force after which he moved to Adel where he went to work with AeroCorp as a supervisor.  Later, he accepted a position in Thomasville, Georgia as a supervisor at Davis Water & Waste Company.  He later worked as trucking manager for Metcalf Lumber Company until retirement. Mr. Raper was a member of Springhead Baptist Church. He loved his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, whom he married on May 23, 1949, Doris Burt Raper; children, Horace Edwin Raper, Jr (Gail) of Dixie, Michael James Raper (Ruthie) of Ooltewah, TN, and Patricia Ann (Greg) Souders of Thomasville; grandchildren,Edwin (Vivian) Raper, Megan (Nathan) Rich, Chris (Michelle) Raper, Jonathan (Christine) Raper, Timothy Raper, Jessica Raper, Joshua Raper, Christa (Oby) Graham, Matthew (Jennifer) Souders, Joseph (Lori) Souders, Alyssa Souders, and David Souders; great grandchildren, Ian Raper, Ava Rich, Lane Rich, Kyle Raper, Conner Graham, Sophie Graham, and Owen Souders. Mr. Raper was preceded in death by his 13 siblings and his grandson, Edwin Raper.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 9, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Purvis Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Souders officiating. Interment will follow at Sparks City Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service at Purvis Funeral Home.
