Mrs. Hattie Mae King, 93, of Morven, died Friday October 23, 2020 at Coffee Regional Medical Center following an extended illness.
Mrs. King was born on March 1, 1927 in Quitman, Georgia. At the age of 16, she began work as a riveter at Warner Robins Air Force Base. Mrs. King later retired from Quitman Manufacturing, where she worked as a seamstress and was well known in Brooks County for her beautify tapestry work. She also worked as a librarian in Valdosta. Mrs. King was known by her family as Grandma Mae Mae. She enjoyed her retirement gardening and spending time her beloved poodle, Angel.
Survivors include her grandsons Chad (Mandy) Scruggs, Hugh Hart, Justin Hart, and Johnathan Hart. Mrs. King’s granddaughters are Carla Scruggs Fortney and Kimberly Warling; and daughter-in-law, Jackie Hart. She also has many great-grandchildren. Mrs. King was preceded in death by her husband, L.B. King, daughter Cathy Hart, and son Larry Hart. She will be missed dearly.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, October 25, 2020 at Oak Hill Cemetery with Rev. Steve Shierling officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 12:30 to 1:30 at Maxwell-Purvis Funeral Home.
