Mr. H. A. "Pud" Carter, 94 of Adel passed away Monday, November 16, 2020 at his home. Mr. Carter was born in Cook County on July 16, 1926 to the late Samuel George Carter and Nina Hiers Carter. He was a deacon for several years at Westside Baptist Church and also the last living charter member. Mr. Carter served in the United States Army. He lived most of his life in Valdosta where he was owner of Southern Upholstery for over 50 years.
Survivors include his son, John A. Carter of Adel; gradson, John Jason Carter and Cindy Carter of Nashville; and five great grandchildren. Mr. Carter was preceded in death by his wife, Idalene Rountree Carter; three brothers, Leland James Carter, John Windell Carter, and Joyce Plesant Carter; and one sister, Ruby Jean Johnson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m.at Springhead Baptist Church with Rev. Joey Taylor, and Rev. Clyde Stokes officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Baptist Church Cemetery with the VVA Chapter # 1090 of Adel providing military rites. The family will be receiving friends Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Purvis Funeral Home. Please observe social distancing and the family request that masks be worn.
