Obituary

Mr. George "Buddy" Robert Johnson, 79 of Quitman passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2023 at South Georgia Medical Center. Mr. Johnson was born June 10, 1944 in Quitman to the late Major Jackson Johnson and Mamie Ruth Newton Johnson. He was a very active member of Northside Baptist Church and a faithful member of the Adult Men's Sunday School Class. He graduated in 1962 from Brooks County High School. Mr. Johnson served in the United States Navy for 4 years, and after returning home he completed his Bachelor of Science Degree at Valdosta State University for accounting. He moved to Huntsville, AL and worked as an Army Audit Agent for 8 years, with the last year with the 193 Brigade in the Panama Canal. After returning back to Quitman he started the Johnson Feeder Pigs with his brothers and before retiring in 2006, Mr. Johnson worked for 17 years with the State of Georgia Probation Department.

Survivors include his wife, Gail Johnson of Quitman; daughter, Kelly (Jake) Brown of Hastings, FL; son, Byron Johnson of Quitman; two granddaughters, Maddie Grace Brown, and Morgan Abigail Brown; brothers, Gene (Ann) Johnson of Lake Park, Herman (Phyllis) Johnson of Valdosta, and Fulton (Prudence) Johnson of Lakeland, FL; sister, Lisa (Mike) Maroney of Castleberry, FL; special cousin, Dorma Ruth (Glenn) Spiller of Quitman; several nieces & nephews; brother-in-law, Robert E. "Bob" (Judy) Godwin; and sister-in-law, Beverly Godwin of Quitman. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his grandfather, George W. Johnson.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 3, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at Northside Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to be made to the Foyer Fund of Northside Baptist Church, P O Box 94, Quitman, GA 31643.
