Evelyn Covington

Evelyn Covington, 83 of Quitman passed away Friday, November 17, 2023 at her home. Evelyn was born July 4, 1941 in Barwick, GA to the late Fred Herndon, Sr. and Josie Southall Herndon. She worked with Quitman Mfg. as a seamstress for 22 years before retiring. She enjoyed sewing until she was not able to do it any longer. Evelyn loved cats and flowers, and she could tell you the name of all of the flowers that she had in her garden. She was gifted with a green thumb and could make anything grow.

Survivors include her daughter, Joyce Garcia of Moultrie; grandchildren, "Lilly" Ana Garcia (Johnny Tapia) , and Margarita Carreon; great grandchildren, Johnny Henry Tapia, and Brian Williams; brothers, Fred Herndon of Palm Coast, FL, and Wayne (Glenda) Herndon of Barwick; and several nieces & nephews. Evelyn was preceded in death by her brother, David Herndon. 

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 27, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Maxwell - Purvis Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Shierling officiating. Interment will follow at Rosewood Cemetery in Barwick. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
