In Loving Memory of Eleanor Welch

Eleanor Welch (89), passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones on April 19th, 2024. She was the only child born to the late Fluorine Robinson Johnson and Theodore Russell Johnson, September 7th, 1934, in Birmingham Alabama. Eleanor worked at The Big Store of Tifton for 42 years, where she loved and adored Phil and Susan Pearlis, along with her fellow colleagues and customers. When she was not spending time with her family or working at The Big Store, you could find her at Lenox Baptist Church where she was a member for 58 years. She was actively involved with Young at Heart, and taught Sunday School until August 2023. In previous years you would find her singing in the choir.

She is survived by her three children Carol (John Dale) Pharr of Lenox, Cindy (Johnny) Wade of Lenox, and Russell (Cindy) Welch of Lenox, and her six grandchildren Patti (Todd) Franklin of Lenox, Michael Hires of Adel, Missy (Buddy) Griffin of Lenox, Lyndsay (Brock) Moore of Lenox, Lee (Karli) Welch of Lenox, and Charley (Blake) Harrell of Douglas. Her memory will live on with her eleven great grandchildren, her three great great grandchildren, and her special friend, Ms. Betty Lindsey Moore. Eleanor is preceded in death by Charles L. Welch and her granddaughter Amy Pharr Hires.

Eleanor loved life and all of its gifts. She loved traveling with her family, and going out with her Young at Heart friends. You could occasionally catch her doing her favorite dance, the Twist. She loved reading, her dog Taco, and her many cats. She is known as "Gigi" to her family which was soon caught on by her church family as well. One of her many qualities was outspokenness. She would never mind telling you how she felt, whether you wanted to hear it or not.

Serving as active pallbearers will be her grandsons and great grandsons; Todd Franklin, Logan Franklin, Gage Barnes, Bradyn Barnes, Broc Moore, and Canton Moore, all of Lenox.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the Fran Price Sunday School class of Lenox Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 21, 2024 at 4:00 p.m. at Lenox Baptist Church with Rev. Dan Eidson officiating. Interment will follow at Staunton Cemetery in Lenox. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the church. As requested by Eleanor Welch, following the service, family and friends are welcome to gather in the Social Hall for a fellowship meal provided by the church, and to view a slideshow of Eleanor's life.
