Edward Price, Sr. Obituary

James Edward Price, Sr.,74 of Quitman, Georgia, went peacefully to be with the Lord on April 23, 2024. He was born on October 20, 1949, in Screven, GA to the late Wilton Edward Price and Ollie Mae Jackson Price. Edward grew up attending Northside Baptist Church in Quitman every Sunday morning and evening. He sang bass in the church choir along with his brother Ronnie. He loved singing songs about his faith.

Edward loved his family and enjoyed spending many hours around the kitchen table playing cards and games. But no one was his equal in Yahtzee! Later in his life, he took up golf and enjoyed playing with his buddies. He used to say he wasn’t PGA quality but had fun playing.

He attended Quitman Elementary and Quitman Jr. High participating in track and field events. He especially liked hurdles and shotput. He also played outfielder in both softball and baseball.

In 1968, Edward volunteered for the US Army during the Vietnam War, specializing as an auto mechanic. He received a National Defense Service Medal for the M14 Rifle as a Marksman. He was stationed in Germany and was grateful for the training he received which allowed him to work on his own vehicles his entire life, whether it be as a hobby or as a necessity. He was also an antique car enthusiast.

Edward earned his CDL license with tanker, bus and double/triple trailer endorsements. He drove for South Georgia Grocery Company, local dairies, and Davis Transfer picking up loads at Lowe’s Distribution in Olin, NC to deliver across the southeast United States. Edward worked as a land surveyor for DeVane PlanEng for 23 years before retiring.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Wilton (W.E.) & Ollie Mae Price; his youngest brother, Connie Price; and his brother-in-law, Kenneth Evans.
