Mr. Donald "Donnie" Griffin, 83 of Quitman passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at South Georgia Medical Center. Mr. Griffin was born January 7, 1938 to the late D. A. Griffin and Florence Grant Griffin. He served in the United States Air Force and was a member of Okalipco Baptist Church. Mr. Griffin loved to work with wood, fish and in his younger days he enjoyed scuba diving. He was a former deputy sheriff with Hardee County, Florida and a motorcycle police officer with the Winter Haven Police Department. When Mr. Griffin came out of the law enforcement, he bought a dry cleaning and laundry service in the 1960's and named it Griffin's Dry Cleaning and Laundry Service.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Griffin of Quitman; children, Ray (Tracy) Griffin of Sebring, FL, and Leigh Souther of Wachula, Fl; stepchildren, Cheryl (Rev. Greg) Icard of Quitman, and Rodney Cain of Burlington, Vermont; grandchildren, Trey Griffin, Kayla (Joey) DeSimone, Alex Griffin, Kendall Griffin, Sean Souther, and Marleigh Souther; step grandchildren, Greg (Ginny) Icard, Jamie (Marie) Icard, Dustin (Nicole) Icard, and Connor Bosley; 10 great grandchildren; one sister, Brenda Michaels of Blairsville, GA. Mr. Griffin was preceded in death by his two brothers, Nell Griffin, and Wendall Griffin; one sister, Audrey Douglas.
Funeral services will be held Monday, April 12, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Maxwell - Purvis Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Icard, and Rev. Jerry Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Okalipco Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends Sunday afternoon from 5-7 p.m. at Maxwell - Purvis Funeral Home. The family request that masks be worn and to observe the social distancing.
