Dollie Wicker Obituary

Dollie Walker Wicker, 95 passed away peacefully on February 26, 2024 in Quitman, GA. She was born on June 27, 1928 in Millen, GA to the late Lloyd Webster Walker and Dollie Daniel Walker. She graduated from Brooks County High School. Dollie moved to Atlanta upon graduation to work where she met the love of her life, Dr. Roy C. Wicker. They were married in 1952 in Quitman in the home her grandfather built in 1906. After marriage they lived and raised their children, Roy, Cornelia, and Dan in Atlanta until 1976 when they moved to Quitman and lived in the family home where they were married.

Dollie loved her family and was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed raising her children and was very involved in their schools and activities. She embodied the best qualities: unconditional love, faith, strength of spirit and unending generosity that could be seen in her care for her husband, family, friends and others. She so enjoyed cooking for her family. Some of our family favorites were Southern Fried Chicken, Chicken Salad and her famous Sausage Rolls. She found much joy in tending her vegetable garden and sharing the fruits of her labor with family and friends. Dollie was an avid tennis player and loved playing with her friends along with watching it on TV, especially Wimbledon.

Our family was blessed that God gave us our Mother, who lived and modeled a life that was loving, selfless, generous, and encouraging.

Survivors include her children, Roy C. Wicker III (Laurie) of Roswell, GA, Cornelia Wicker Buckley (Ferber) of Canton, GA,  and Dan Walker Wicker of Powder Springs, GA; grandchildren, Brent Wicker of Atlanta, GA, Leigh Wicker of Nashville, TN, Palmer O’Dowd (Devan) of Venice, CA, Sean Buckley (Kaylin) of Atlanta, GA, Ryan Buckley (Stacy) of Indian Shores, FL, Bray Buckley (Savanna) of Birmingham, AL, Erin Wicker of Powders Springs, GA, and Cason Wicker of Powder Springs, GA; numerous great grandchildren; special niece, Blanche Gillis Stanfield of Melborne, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Dollie was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Roy Cason Wicker, Jr; father, Lloyd Webster Walker; and mother, Dollie Daniel Walker; and sister, Anne Walker Gillis.
