Betty Burgdorf

Mrs. Betty Burgdorf, 89 of Adel passed Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at her home. Mrs. Burgdorf was born December 1, 1933 in Vidalia, GA to the late Rev. J. C. Smith, Sr. & Ruth Calder Smith. She taught Language Arts at the Cook County Middle School for 20 years. Mrs. Burgdorf was a member of First Baptist Church Adel and enjoyed being a Sunday School teacher for many years. She loved the Lord, her family, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She often said "my children are my heart."

Survivors include her children, Jay Burgdorf of Adel, Carol Burgdorf-Lackes of Adel, and Paul (Renee) Burgdorf of Eatonton, GA.; grandchildren, Katie (Kurt) Thornburg, Anna Burgdorf, Jake (Sierra) Burgdorf, and Brittany (Joseph) Harmon; great-grandchildren, Parker James Thornburg, Peyton Burgdorf, and Aaliyah Harmon; and several nieces, nephews & cousins. Mrs. Burgdorf was preceded in death by her husband, James Douglas "Doug" Burgdorf; brother, J. C. Smith, Jr., and son-in-law, Cecil Lackes.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 16, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church Adel with Dr. Mike Ruffin, Dr. Neal Sweet officiating. Interment will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery Annex. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service at 2:00 p.m.
