Barbara Parks Obituary

Barbara Stone Parks passed away peacefully April 2, 2020 at the age of 80 and is now dancing across Heaven. Barbara Gale Vance was born in Tifton, GA on August 18, 1939. Barbara graduated from Cook County High School where she was a cheerleader. She married Fritz Stone on December 22, 1957, and together they had two children before he tragically died in 1968. Barbara unselfishly acted as mother and father to her two young children while living in Tucker, GA. She married Bill Parks in 1973, and they lived in Hartwell, GA until his death in 2009.

She was a loving mother to Phyllis (Curtis) Stone Wager of Lantana, FL and Bret (Darlene) Stone of Lawrenceville, GA. She cherished her six grandchildren, Nikki (Matt Gilmore) Doetzer, Joey (Nicole) Williamson, Cody Wager, Case Wager, Breanna Stone, and Vance Stone as well as her four great-grandchildren, Landon Doetzer and Joey, Oliver, and Noah Williamson. Survivors also include her brother-in-law, Freddie Stone, sisters-in-law, Sandra Faye Keene, Marsha Vance, and Carolyn Vance, a niece, Joy Vance Johns, and nephews, Trenton Vance, Mike Stone, Alan Stone, and Jonathan Atkinson. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Olive Joiner Vance, her two “little” brothers, Ernest E. Vance and Donnie H. Vance, her husbands, Fritz Stone of Adel, GA and William “Bill” Parks of Sylvester, GA, and her nephews, Jason Atkinson, and Payton Vance.

Barbara had many loves. She was Elvis Presley’s #1 fan! But the beach brought joy to her soul. She treasured each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and took great pride in their accomplishments. She will be remembered for her kindness, strength, graciousness, and generosity. Those that were lucky enough to be in her life will truly miss her and her dry sense of humor that kept us smiling.

A private graveside service will be held Sunday, April 5, 2020 at Antioch United Methodist Church Cemetery.
