Arthur Morin, JD, MBA Obituary

The family of Arthur P. Morin, JD, MBA, aged 59, of Quitman, GA, is saddened to announce his passing on Monday, July 10, 2023.

Arthur was the son of René Morin and Mireille Jomain; the stepson of Annick Morin of Paris, France, and Dr. Joseph H. Baum and Dr. Susan M. Harding of Quitman, GA; and the brother of Eric F. Morin, who preceded him in death. He is survived by both of his stepmothers; his sister, Diane Morin, and her three sons, Bastien, Tristan, and Raphaël; by his stepbrother Gordon MacDonald Promish; and by his stepsister, L. Stephanie Smith, and her children, Patrick, Iain, Margaret, and Ronan.

Arthur was born in Paris, France, on April 16, 1964, and lived there, until he moved with his mother and brother to Philadelphia, PA, in 1970, where his mother married Joseph H. Baum. He grew up in the Philadelphia area, where his interests included scouting and music. All through his youth, he spent his summers in France with his father, René, and his stepmother, Annick, as well as grandparents and extended family. In 1978, his mother, Mireille Baum, passed away. Arthur and his brother chose to remain in the U. S.

In 1981, he entered college at Columbia University in New York City, where he also attended Law School, graduating in 1989. He practiced law on Wall Street and in Paris, France, until 1995, when he left to pursue an MBA at INSEAD, in France. In 1996, Arthur moved to Madrid, Spain, to pursue a career in consulting and financial services. He lived in Spain until 2010.

In 2010, Arthur moved to Quitman, GA, to be with his stepparents, Joseph and Susan, and stepsiblings Mac and Stephanie. Arthur enjoyed the hospitality of his stepbrother, Mac, who shared his home with him. He loved South Georgia with its beautiful farmlands and woodlands, but it was the people, most of all, that warmed his heart and that made his time here so enjoyable.

In Quitman, Arthur founded BrandSouth Marketing, and was active in the Quitman and Valdosta communities. He served as an officer of the Quitman Garden Club; as Chairman of the Brooks County Republican Party; and was the founder and President of the Valdosta Latino Association.

Arthur also enjoyed teaching and working with young people. He was a part-time professor at IE Business School in Madrid, Spain, and was a proud assistant coach of the Spray Cheetahs soccer team in Quitman, GA.

Throughout his life, Arthur treasured the family and friendships which he maintained in the U. S. and in Europe. It is Arthur’s fervent hope that the connections that he helped to forge between people here and abroad continue to strengthen long after his passing.

It was Arthur’s wish that he be cremated, and his ashes be buried in St. James’ Episcopal Church’s Prayer Garden.

His burial service is scheduled to take place on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at 5:30 PM at the Maxwell-Purvis Funeral Home (908 N. Court Street, Quitman, GA 31643), following Rite 1 of The Book of Common Prayer, at Arthur’s request. The burial of his ashes and a reception, both to take place at St. James’ Episcopal Church (306 N. Court St, Quitman, GA 31643), will directly follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, Arthur requested that donations be made to the following worthy recipients:
