Ruby Jewel Stahl

November 12, 1934 ~ January 4, 2018 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Mrs. Ruby Jewel Stahl, 83 of Quitman passed peacefully on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at Fellowship Home after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.  Mrs. Stahl was born November 12, 1934 to the late Emory Collins Jones and Ettie Mae Hancock Jones.  Mrs. Ruby called Quitman her home, where she raised five children alongside her late husband and local pharmacist, Horace “Sonny” Stahl. She retired after 23 years from the Brooks County Board of Education where she was Secretary for a State Title V Program, later becoming the Program Director. She came back part time as secretary to the Staff Developer. Mrs. Ruby has been a member of Quitman United Methodist Church for the last 49 years. She was also actively involved in many local charities and community organizations including: member of the Red Hat Club and the American Heart Association.  Mrs. Ruby was very well known in the community.  Her friends and family remember her by her joyous laughter and constant smile.  Mrs. Ruby's big blue eyes and whistling of tunes could light up any room. 

Survivors include her children, Horace “Jimmy” Stahl of Quitman, Robert “Bobby” Stahl of Frisco TX, Rebecca “Becky” Pike of Valdosta, and Elizabeth Ann Hammett of Valdosta. Mrs. Ruby also left behind 9 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.  Mrs. Stahl was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Augustus Stahl and daughter, Barbara Grace Stahl. Alongside three brothers, Carter Jones, Emory Jones, and Pete Jones; one sister, Susie Grace Castleberry.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, January 7, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.at Quitman United Methodist Church with Rev. Pam France, and Rev. James Guthrie officiating.  Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.  The family will be receiving friends at 1:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association
