Mr. Ralph Jarvis, 87 of Quitman passed away Thursday, June 27, 2019 at his sons residence. He was born August 1, 1931 to the late Joseph W. Jarvis & Hattie Bishop Jarvis. Mr. Jarvis served in the United States Army and while he was stationed at Fort Benning, he was on the Honor Guard Drill Team that performed for President Truman. He was also a Korean War Veteran, a Purple Heart Recipient, and a member of the VFW. Mr. Jarvis was a member of Ousley Baptist Church and retired from the Quitman Fire Department after 15 years.
Survivors include his children, Randy (Karen) Jarvis of Quitman, Carol Elaine (Jim) Probasco of TN, and Janet (Gary) Eldridge of Dixie; grandchildren, Courtney Matheny, Elizabeth Jarvis, Timothy Jarvis, Dezi Jarvis, Travis Brandt, Brian (Susan) Griffis, Megan (Dakota) Wright, Christina (Jayson) Simpson, and Daniel (Cortney) Eldridge; seven great grandchildren; sisters, Latrelle (Frank) Williams of Brunswick, and Dorothy Baker of Cairo; sister in law, Ruth Jarvis of Valdosta. Mr. Jarvis was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie Lee Jarvis; brothers, J. W. Jarvis, III, Buddy Jarvis, Virgil Jarvis, and Leroy Jarvis; and one sister, Faye Williams.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 29, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Maxwell Purvis Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery with military rites. The family will be receiving friends Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Maxwell-Purvis Funeral Home.
