Phillip Grimsley Obituary

Mr. Phillip Wayne Grimsley, 83 of Adel passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at his residence.  Mr. Grimsley was born February 2, 1935 in Colquitt Ga to the late Roy and Mary Lou Williams Grimsley.  He served in the United States Air Force for 23 years and retired as a Lt. Col.  Mr. Grimsley moved to Adel in 1978 to become the owner of Cook County Ford for 31 years and retired in 2009.  He was known as “Tall Phil” and put Adel on the map with “That’s Adel, Baby!”  Mr. Grimsley was dedicated to the education of Cook County students, giving countless scholarships.  He was generous to many organizations and charities. 

Survivors include his wife, Dianne Thomas Grimsley of Adel; children, Heather Grimsley, Nicole Grimsley Metzheiser and her husband, Neil Metzheiser, all of Atlanta; grandchildren, Phillip Metzheiser, Henry Metzheiser, and John Metzheiser, all of Atlanta; step children, Will Kelley and his wife, Katie Kelley of Adel, Leslie Patrick and her husband, Michael Patrick of Lavonia, GA., and Lora Young and her husband, Austin Young of Adel; step grandchildren, Anna Kelley, Allie Kelley, Ensley Patrick and Abel Young; sister, Kaye Helms and her husband, Dale Helms of Cairo; nephews, Gregg Grimsley, Felix Grimsley, Garrett Grimsley, Dee Helms, and Jon Helms.  Mr. Grimsley was preceded in death by his brother, Don Grimsley.

Funeral services will be held Friday, August 3, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Adel First Baptist Church with Minister, Chris Newbern, and Rev. Bill Marlette officiating.  The family will be receiving friends Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Purvis Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Adel First Baptist Church, 200 East 5th St., Adel, GA  31620 or to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Disease to:  The Michael J.
