Dorothy Lodge Obituary

Mrs. Dorothy Bell Lodge of Eastside Community, Brooks County, Quitman, passed away at the Fellowship Home on October 1, 2019  She was born March 17, 1923 in Brooks County to the late Allen Thomas and Connie Simpson Bell.  Dorothy graduated from Morven High School, class of 1940 where she served a class president  After high school, she attended Joye's Business School in Thomasville, GA.  She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for Turner Construction Company in Thomasville and later was employed by Farmers Products Company, Thomasville.  She was a charter member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority of Thomasville and served as secretary until she married and moved from Thomasville.  She married Thomas Loyd Lodge, Jr of Tallahassee, Fl, on December 10, 1946.  She and Thomas lived in Fernandina Beach, FL before moving to Eastside Community, Brooks County in November 1948 building a home in the community in 1955.  Dorothy was an active member of Philadelphia Baptist Church as long as her health permitted.  She taught Sunday School classes, served as secretary and president of the Woman's Missionary Union.  She was also a leader of Girls Auxiliary, a faithful vacation bible school worker and served on numerous committees while active in the church.  She was a happy homemaker and a devoted, loving caring mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  

Survivor include her son, Larry Thomas Lodge (Sharon) of Quitman; two daughters, Linda L. Booth (Bill) of Quitman and Lila L. Jones of Boston; seven grandchildren, Justin (Amber) Lodge, Adam (Amber Faith) Lodge, Austin (Keri) Lodge all of Quitman, Kevin (Brandi) Booth of Hahira, Kelly Booth McCranie (Tim) of Ocilla, Jennifer Johnson (Chad) Ryan of Thomasville, and Jeremy (Keri) Johnson of Coolidge; 15 great grandchildren; brother in law, Earl W. Lodge of Quincy, Fl; sister in law, Wilma Bell of Morven.  Mrs. Lodge was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas L. Lodge, Jr; two son in laws, Raymond Miller Johnson Jr, and Larry Kenneth Jones; grandson, Joshua Lodge; sister and brother in law, Hilda Bell Griffin (Orris) of Moultrie; brothers and sister in laws, Alton (Prudence) Bell, and brothers David H. Bell (Edna Bell Tyson) and brothers, Ralph S. Bell and Roland E. Bell; sister in law and brother in law, Helen Lodge Frost and Raymond Jack Frost of Tallahassee, Fl; sister in law, Sybil Sims Lodge of Quincy, FL; and in laws, Thomas Loyd Lodge, Sr, and Evelyn Maxwell Lodge of Tallahassee, FL.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 4, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Philadelphia Baptist Church with Rev. Klay Luke officiating.  Interment will follow at the church cemetery with State Representative John LaHood officiating.  The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Philadelphia Baptist Church cemetery fund, or the charity of your choice.  The family would like to thank the Fellowship Home Willow Wood staff for their many years of care, Bethany Hospice of Valdosta, and caretaker, Beulah Denson Chandler.
