Donna Meeler Obituary

Donna Kay Meeler, 54 of Adel passed away Friday, November 2, 2018 at her residence.  She was born November 20, 1963 in Lowndes County, Ga.  Her parents were William Henry Lewis and Jean Lovett Lewis of Lake Park.  Donna Kay Lewis married Jody L. Meeler of Cook County on October 4, 1980 and was married for 38 years.  Kay accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior in March 1985, and was baptized at New Hope Baptist Church at Wagon Wheel.  They have two children, Donna Michelle "Missy" Meeler Webb (David) of Nashville, and Jody Carl "J C" Meeler (Susan) of Adel; three grandchildren, Abbie Webb, Reid Meeler, and Josleigh Meeler.  Kay was a member of New Life Baptist Church of Pine Valley (Adel) where she loved working with the Youth and Senior Adults for years.  She was a Volunteer Fire Fighter for the Pine Valley Fire Department from 1990 till 2015, where she served the residents of Cook County.  She came down with cancer in December 2014, and had to quit due to health issues.  Kay still encouraged Jody and J C to serve as fire fighters and medical first responder.  Kay loved watching Abbie, her oldest granddaughter, pitch and play second base in softball.  She was the pride on the diamond, and Kay was proud of the beautiful and smart young lady she has become.  Reid was her big man, and loved watching him play baseball and throwing the ball with him.  She is also proud of him for his school academics.  Josleigh was her baby girl and was Meme's little nurse and kitchen helper.  Abbie called Kay "Grammy" and Reid and Josleigh called her "Meme."  She loved spending time with all her grandchildren, whether they are blood or not.

Kay loved helping and taking care of others especially the kids and senior adults.  If you needed help all you had to do was call Kay.  She could do just about anything she put her mind to.  When her and Jody first married, she would help her Father work on his trucks and after they were married, she helped Jody and his Father run Meeler's Garage behind Adel tires.  She loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, and hunting.  She would bow hunt and take Reid or Josleigh with her to sit in the stand.  Before Kay was burned in a work accident, she loved to just walk in the woods.  To sum up Kay's life, she loves Jesus Christ her Lord and Savior and all he has created.  Jody said, "she is my best friend, the love of my life, the mother of our children, the Grammy/Meme of her grandchildren, and the Meme to a whole lot more children."

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at New Life Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Boykin, Rev. Vernon Hughes, and Rev. Chad Payne officiating.  Interment will follow at the church cemetery.  The family will be receiving friends Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Purvis Funeral Home.  Serving as active pallbearers will be James Ray, Roscoe Patterson, Jacob McDowell, Jake Weeks, Sharrod Fulghum, and Michael Barfield.  All the other Cook County Volunteer Firemen will served as honorary pallbearers.

The Cook County Volunteer Firemen will give Donna Kay Meeler (219) a Fire Fighters Last ride.  She will be transported from Purvis Funeral Home to New Life Baptist Church on top of the Pine Valley Engine where she served Cook County residents as a volunteer from February 1990 till October 2015 to her resting place.  .
