June 30, 1972 ~ October 14, 2017 (age 45) 45 Years Old


Gary Andrew “Andy” Lawhorn, 45, died peacefully on the morning of Saurday, October 14, 2017 at his home near Adel, GA.  Andy had bravely faced a six year fight with cancer and it’s debilitation with determination and a positive attitude.

Andy was born on June 30, 1972 in Valdosta, GA to Gary and Anna Lawhorn and had lived his entire life in Cook County, where he was a member of First Baptist Church, Adel.  He was a graduate of Cook High School and attended both ABAC and VSU before discovering his real love of working with machinery.  He completed the CNC Machine and Tool Technology program at Valdosta Technical College and entered into the tool repair and sales business with his father, later becoming owner of Superior Saw and Tool, Inc.

While in high school, Andy won first place in the VICA Automotive Technology competition in Atlanta and represented Georgia in the national contest.  He had an exceptional mechanical ability and could repair most any piece of machinery used in the wood and metal working industry.  He loved the great outdoors and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

Surviving Andy is his wife, Eve Guinn Lawhorn of Adel; one son, Will Lawhorn of Valdosta; two daughters, Tayler Lawhorn of Valdosta, and Lauren Lawhorn of Adel.  His father preceded him in death, but his mother survives, as well as a brother and sister in law, Doug and Robin Lawhorn of Jacksonville, Fl.  Also surviving are his wife parents, Ronald and Iris Guinn of Pace, Fl.  In addition, an uncle, Bill and Doris Summers of Valdosta; two aunts, Mary Fountain of Valdosta, and Louise and Jerry Atkinson of Dothan, Alabama.  A number of cousins, brothers in law and sisters in law, and friends.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church Adel with Rev. Jody Futch, and Rev. Doug Stevens officiating.  Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery Annex.  The family will be receiving friends Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Purvis Funeral Home.
