Dorothy Tucker

July 6, 1931 ~ July 25, 2017 (age 86) 86 Years Old


Mrs. Dorothy Rowland Tucker, 86, of Quitman, passed away at her residence surrounded by her family, on July 25, 2017. Mrs. Tucker was born in Cook County on July 6, 1931, to the late Kathleen Martin Rowland and Jack Rowland.  She was a devoted wife for 67 years, loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was affectionately known by friends and family as “Mama T”. She greatly enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, reading, and writing humorous stories (letters). She  always put her family’s needs ahead of her own. She warmly greeted everyone with a smile and friendly welcome and lots of delicious food! Mrs. Tucker often kept people laughing with her kind and keen wit. She was an inspiration to all her family and friends, including a long list of nieces and nephews. She left behind a legacy of faith and love. Mrs. Tucker was a dedicated member of Boston Primitive Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, James D. Tucker of Quitman; children, Dennis (Tina) Tucker of Dixie, Linda J. Rudisill of Quitman, and Ben (Kristin) Tucker of Adel; grandchildren Mary (Eric) Brubaker, Heather Grizzle, Autumn Tucker, Kimberly (Travis) Bazemore, Jim Tucker, Kelly Tucker, and Kyle Tucker; great grandchildren, Noah Vaughn, Davey Grizzle, Anavah Brubaker, Jachin Brubaker, and Logan Bazemore; one sister, Betty Jean (John D.) Belcher of Quitman; and one brother Gene (Irene) of Ft. Pierce, Fla.  Mrs. Tucker was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Earl, Cleve, Jack, and Virgil Rowland; and one sister Robbie Nelle Sturgis.

Family visitation will be held Thursday, July 27, 2017, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Maxwell-Miller Funeral Home in Quitman. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Boston Event Center ( Former Boston Primitive Baptist Church) 236 E. Adams Street, Boston, Ga. with Bro. Jimmy Cason officiating. Interment will follow at the Boston Cemetery with Bro. Jimmy Chapman officiating.

The family would like to thank Dr. Rachel Velez and the staff at BCH and also Dr. Sid Staton and the staff at SGMC for their dedicated service.
